Ex NFVCB DG defends role with Africa Magic
The immediate past Director General of National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), Mr Emeka Mba, has explained why many stakeholders blamed his administration for his role with Africa Magic.
Mba who was recently appointed by President Goodluck Jonathan as the new Director General of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) said many stakeholders believed that the South African pay TV network planted him as NFVCB boss to do their bidding.
“I remember when I assumed office as the D-G of NFVCB, a lot of people opined that South Africans planted me there to their own advantage. To a large extent, I was blamed for my association with African Magic,” he recounted.
The ex-DG was speaking at a reception held in his honour by a group better known as Nigerian Entertainment Business Group, at Four Point Hotel, on the Lagos island during the week.
He, however, promised to do everything in his power to ensure that the NBC doesn’t stand in the way of progress of the industry. “As the new NBC boss, I will do everything within my power to ensure that the commission doesn’t stand in the way of progress for the industry, even if it cannot help you, it will not stand in the way of your progress,”Mba assured, adding “ This is not a new constituency, it is the same industry. All I can ask for is your prayers and advice. With your support, I think we can make this industry great and Nigeria the creative hub of Africa.”
Celebrating his new appointment, the group comprising mainly firms that focus on the business aspect of film making gathered friends, well-wishers and diplomats to an evening of dance and clinking glasses.
