Okere Juju festival thrills with music, dance


The annual Okere-Juju festival, which commenced on Tuesday in Okere community in Warri, Delta State, has set the oil rich town into a frenzy of sorts.
Using the components of music, dance and other entertainment forms, the Awankere festival, which is popularly known as Okere-Juju, has become a tourist delight.
With International Distillers Limited, manufacturers of Eagle Aromatic and Commodore Schnapps, putting its weight behind the festival, the indigenes and the tourists are being treated to both traditional and modern cultural delights of the people of the area.
A statement made available to our correspondent by the promoters of the festival, which runs till July 27, noted, “The Festival is a tourist attraction, and thousands of Warri sons and daughters come home during the celebration. It provides opportunities for ancestral worship and purification of both the land and the people. It is also said by the community to enhance fertility.”
Cultural enthusiasts and tourists will also have opportunity to participate in some games in which different prizes will be won.
Eagle and Commodore Schnapps are introducing games such as Table Tennis, Football, Snooker and Draft, among others to  delight visitors.”
According to the brand manager, IDL,  Mr Kingsley Anuebunwa,   the winners of these sports and games will take home cash prizes, trophies and branded gift items.
